UAE U-16 were crowned Champions of the ACC U-16 Asia Cup Western region tournament after defeating Kuwait U-16 by 5 wickets in the final at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in UAE.
Batting first, Kuwait U-16 managed to post 137/9 in their 35 overs with Gokul Sunil Kumar scoring a fine half century and Jandu Hamoud chipping in with a 52-ball 28. Gokul Kumar top-scored with 50 off 79 deliveries.
Aryan Lakra (2/16 off 7), Chathiya Huppegoda (2/19 off 3) and Yuvraj J (2/26 off 7) were the main wicket-takers for UAE U-16 as they used 8 bowlers in the innings.
UAE U-16 had a tricky chase on their hands but Rona Sudesh (30 off 26) provided a flyer of a start but both the openers got dismissed within the 7th over with UAE placed at 37/2. Aryan Lakra (15 off 30) & Shoun R (25 off 32) couldn’t go on to make more runs with UAE at 83/4 in the 17th over at one stage.
However, Muhammad A (41 off 43) and Harsh Ashutosh (15 n.o off 35) combined for a 48 runs partnership for the 5th wicket to take UAE close to their target before Muhammad became the 5th & the last wicket to fall for UAE U-16. Osama Hassan joined Harsh to finish off the chase with UAE U-16 scoring 138/5 in 30 overs to win the final by 5 wickets.
