While Ireland U19 managed to secure a nerve-wracking victory against Afghanistan U19 in their final group stage match, they will now move onto the Plate Championship for the bottom 2 teams from each group.
Ireland U19 will now play West Indies U19 in the Plate Championship Quarter-finals.
Afghanistan had already qualified for the Super League Quarter-finals were they will meet either New Zealand U19 or South Africa U19 based on their match result.
Ireland posted 225/8 in their 50 overs batting first and held onto defend 7 runs in the final over of Afghanistan’s chase to win the match by 4 runs. The highlight of Ireland’s innings being the partnership between Harry Tector (36) and Neil Rock (35), who put on 72 runs for the 5th wicket to stabilise the innings when Ireland were in a bit of bother at 73/4.
