The recently held ACC members meeting in Dubai did not come out with a conclusion on who will host the 2018 Asia Cup. As per media reports, it was reported that India, the assigned host for the tournament was apprehensive due to Indian Government’s stance of hosting Pakistan in India for an international tournament.
However, at the conclusion of the meeting, India were still the host’s for the event with BCCI seeking clearance from the Government for hosting Pakistan in India. If they cannot, then the next meeting in January 2018 will decide the new host for the tournament and the qualification process for non-test countries for the 1 spot in the main draw.
A significant point discussed and approved was ACC’s plan to include Cricket as a discipline in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta & Palembang in Indonesia. ACC has given assurances to Cricket Indonesia that they will provide the necessary financial support and infrastructure/logistics help to stage the games successfully in a short notice.
If approved and included in the games, Cricket will make its 3rd appearance in the games with the other previous 2 editions being played in 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou in China & 2014 Asian Games in South Korea. It will be a good boost for all the non-test playing countries to play in an International event against the Test nations in the Asian region.
