Oman to host 8-nation ACC Asia Cup Western Region T20 qualifiers

Oman Cricket (OC) will be hosting the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Western Region T20 tournament from Feb 21st – 28th, 2020, which is the qualification pathway towards 2020 ACC Asia Cup Qualifiers. All matches in the tournament will be played with official T20I status and ranking points will be counted towards ICC Men’s T20I team rankings.

Oman will host team’s from United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Maldives, Saudi Arabia and Iran, from which the two finalist’s will qualify for the Asia Cup qualifiers. They will join the top two team’s from the Eastern Region T20, to be hosted by Thailand in the qualifiers. All matches in the tournament will be live streamed on Asian Cricket Counci’s facebook page and YouTube channel.

Oman, Qatar, Maldives and Bahrain are placed in one group, while the other group consists of United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Iran. All coutries will play each other in a single round-robin group stage format, before the top two teams advance to the semi-final stage of the tournament. Oman and UAE were not part of the standalone edition of Western Region T20 tournament held in Oman in Jan 2019, in which Saudi Arabia triumphed over Qatar in the final to win the event.
