UAE and Afghanistan to play bi-lateral series in December 2023

As part of the agreement made between Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) towards annual bi-lateral series arrangements, the Men’s National teams will play against each other at Sharjah Cricket Stadium from December 25th, 2023 – January 01st, 2024, in a series comprising of two (2) games in the 50-overs format and three (3) T20 International games (with ICC team ranking points).

Both teams met earlier in February 2023 for the 3-match T20I series, with Afghanistan winning the series 2-1.

    Why have the 50-over games not been accorded ODI status, given that both nations have ODI status? Seems arbitrary and ridiculous to me, as usual.

      It depends on the arrangement between the participating boards, and in this case, both have not opted for playing the games as official ODIs. With Emirates Board hosting, it could also be a matter of incurring additional expense to host those games with ODI status, as it would require more expense and UAE Board currently do not have much to spend, other than the ones on the T20Is.
