Afghanistan trying to break barrier by appointing first ever Female Board member

Afghanistan’s Deputy Minister of Commerce Kamila Seddiqi has been elected as one of the new members of the Afghanistan Cricket Board. In a move which could break the barriers for growth of Women’s cricket in the country, it’s a highly welcome move by the cricket board.

ACB Chairman Atif Mashal said that the move is looked upon as a significant step forward both in terms inclusion, diversity and development of Women’s cricket.

For any cricket board to be granted Full membership, Women’s cricket programs and structure is a mandatory requirement by International Cricket Council (ICC). However, exception was made for Afghanistan during their review for membership in ICC Annual Meeting in June 2017.

A wonderful article by Malali Bashir showcased the challenges and difficulties Afghan Women face, who try to break the cultural barriers to play cricket.
