Argentina and Belize squads announced for T20 World Cup Americas qualifiers in Antigua

Cricket Argentina (CA) and Belize National Cricket Association (BNCA) have announced their respective 14-member men’s national squads for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Americas regional qualifiers in Antigua from November 07th – 14th, 2021. Argentina and Belize will be competing against teams from Canada, Bahamas, USA, Panama and Bermuda for two (2) qualification spots into the global qualifiers in 2022.

Both Argentina and Belize were part of the sub-regional qualifiers for 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2018. While Argentina played against the likes of Cayman Islands and Bermuda in their sub-regional event, Belize competed with USA, Canada and Panama in their sub-regional event. Both countries have not played any International cricket since the beginning of COVID-19 pandemic globally and will get the opportunity to play against all the teams in this competition, which is a single round-robin group stage format event.

The selected players have played competitive matches in the domestic tournaments at home this year, but an ICC tournament will be a lot tougher challenge, although they will get to play matches at the iconic Sir Vivian Richards stadium and Coolidge Cricket ground in Antigua. Belize had success in their last International tournament in 2019, when they won the Central American Championships, in which they played against the likes of Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and Panama. Argentina also has had success in their last played International tournament in 2019 as well, when they won the South American Championships and played T20Is against the likes of Mexico, Peru, Brazil and Chile.
