Scotland players headline nominees for ICC’s “Associate Player of the Decade” awards

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on November 24th released the nominations for the awards to be given away to various cricketers for their performances over the past decade (2011-2020) in the “Awards of the Decade” categories. The voting process is currently underway and the winners will be announced on 12th December 2020 for all the categories, in a special ICC Awards of the Decade digital show, to be broadcast on the ICC digital channels.

The voting opens at 13:00 hours GST on Wednesday 25th November and closes at 22:30 hours GST on Wednesday 16th December. Fans can register on our website icc-cricket.com/awards and vote for those shortlisted by an Awards Nominations Committee, based on performances during the period 01st January 2011 to 07th October 2020. The nominees for each of the categories have been determined by the Awards Nominations Committee according to on-field performances and overall achievements for at least five years during the period.

The fan vote will make up 10% of the voting, while votes from an expert panel will make up the remaining 90%.

The Associate nominations across both Men’s and Women’s categories feature five players from Scotland itself, which showcases their rise among the Associate ranks after Ireland and Afghanistan in the last decade. From featuring in Cricket World Cups, T20 World Cups to finishing among the top nations in ICC World Cricket League Championships and ICC Intercontinental Cup, along with wins over full-member countries have catapulted their status and nominations for players from both their men’s and women’s national teams highlights their contributions.

Similarly, in the women’s nominations, three players from Thailand’s women’s national squad have been enlisted, which showcases their rise among the global Women’s cricket countries in the past couple of years. From beating Sri Lanka in the Women’s Asia Cup to achieving a record-breaking unbeaten streak in Women’s T20I matches, to qualifying and featuring in their maiden Women’s T20 World Cup in 2020, the journey has been nothing short of mesmerizing and the nominees have been at the forefront of these performances and richly deserve all the accolades coming their way.

Netherlands feature with one nomination in both Men’s and Women’s categories, while there are one nomination each from Nepal and Papua New Guinea in the Men’s category. Kyle Coetzer, Calum McLeod and Chanida Sutthiruang have previously won individual awards for their performances in a calendar year (2018 and 2019).
