Batsmen get amongst the runs for Jersey as rain washes out game

Jersey batsmen got to bat out almost 48 overs before torrential rain interrupted their 50-overs match against Singapore Crescents at Ceylon Sports Club ground in Singapore.

Jersey were invited to bat first by SG Crescents and it paid off immediately as Nathaniel Watkins got out in the very first over. Ben Stevens joined Peter Gough in the middle and played an aggressive innings of 43 in 35 deliveries to provide a quick turnaround after the fall of the early first wicket.

After Stevens fell, 2018 MCC YC squad member, Jonty Jenner joined Peter Gough, who was anchoring the innings from one end with Jersey’s innings moving forward in a brisk manner. However, Jonty didn’t get to convert his start as he got out for 24 runs with Jersey placed at 93/3 in the 20th over.

Jersey controlled the pace of the match from there on with a good partnership between Gough and Nick Ferraby, as the duo put up 83 runs for the 4th wicket before Ferraby (55 off 54) fell to Chetan Suryawanshi with the score reading at 176/4 in the 38th over.

Gough reached his half-century and remained unbeaten on 78 off 124 deliveries as Jersey lost 3 more wickets to reach 230/7 in the 48th over. Chetan Suryavanshi (2/22) and Rohan Rangarajan (2/32) bowled well for Singapore Crescents, being able to execute some tight overs in the middle part of Jersey’s innings.

Both the teams will be back on the field for the 2nd 50-overs match tomorrow before Jersey travels to Malaysia for ICC WCL Division 4.
