Sri Lanka U-19 ensured there is no repeat accolades for Afghanistan U-19 after their victory against Pakistan U-19 the previous day, as they beat them comprehensively by 61 runs in their 2nd group match.
Batting first, Sri Lanka U-19 posted 196/8 in their 42 overs as the match was reduced debtor early rains. They got a good start from their openers, Dananjaya Lakshan (24 off 35) and Hasitha Boyagoda (53 off 84); however, following their departure, Afghanistan U-19 came back into the match picking wickets in the middle over.
Jehan Daniel (36 off 40) & Nuwanidu Fernando (19 off 16) held the innings during the late overs and took the team to their final total with Ibrahim Zadran picking up 2 wickets in the final over to restrict them to 196/8.
Ibrahim (27 off 52) gave a cautious start to the innings as Afghanistan lost wickets and were reduced to 61/4 in the 19th over. Darwish Rasooli took the attack to the Lankan bowlers with an aggressive knock of 50 off 44 deliveries but after his dismissal, Praveen Jayawickrama ran through the remaining batting line-up picking up 5/17 in the process and dismissing Afghanistan for 135 in 33.5 overs.
Jehan Daniel (2/20) provided good support with the ball to Praveen. Sri Lanka U-19, thus record their 2nd victory in the group stage and are almost sure of clinching the semi-final spot from their group.
