Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) and two of the major domestic clubs in the country have been provided a timely financial benefit from the government as part of Capital Development grants to assist in the upgradation of facilities, new equipment purchase and youth development programs. Premier of Bermuda and leader of the Progressive Labour Party David Burt presented the cheques to the representatives from the Cricket Board and the clubs.
Bermuda Cricket Board and Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club were jointly awarded $25,000 to assist with upgrades to Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club’s facilities. BCB and the club will use the funds to ensure that the upgraded facilities meet ICC requirements to stage multi-nation tournaments and also be the primary venue for national squad’s training/coaching sessions.
Somerset Cricket Club and St. George’s Cricket Club was awarded $12,500 each from the Confiscated Assets Fund to support their ongoing youth programme and future plans on the same. Both the clubs were previously awarded as part of the Capital Development Grant in December 2020, with Somerset Cricket Club getting $42,000 to assist with upgrades to upper-level flooring in their clubhouse, and St. George’s Cricket Club getting a sum of $50,000.
Bermuda Cricket Board are planning to start the 2021 domestic season from 26th June 2021, with T20 format only to be played in the curtailed season to prepare the players for ICC qualification tournaments for both 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup and 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The 2021 league season will consist of two complete rounds, which will include promotion and relegation (2 teams advancing and 2 teams getting relegated).
Eastern Counties Cricket Association (ECCA) have also announced that the three rounds of matches in the Annual classic series will take place on July 17th, August 14th and August 28th at Sea Breeze Oval. The series will be the showcase event of the domestic season in the absence of the Annual Cup match for the 2nd time in a row owing to COVID-19 pandemic.
