Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) have announced (as reported by National dailies like Royal Gazette and BerNews) that the inaugural edition of Men’s Franchise T20 tournament, namely Bermuda Smash Invitational (BSI), will be taking place from May 15th – 19th, 2024 at North Field, National Sports Centre. The tournament is being sponsored by various entities in the country, and include the likes of LiveNet, CG Insurance, MS Reinsurance, BermudAir, Burrows Lightbourn, BGA, Sound Concepts and Barclay’s Construction. The inaugural edition will feature four teams, namely Pembroke Panthers (captained by Tre Manders), Hamilton Parish Hurricanes (Terryn Fray), Smith’s Sixers (Delray Rawlins) and Sandys Spartans (Kamau Leverock).
The much needed Franchise T20 competition in the cricket-crazy nation will also have overseas participation, with the BCB announcing Caribbean players in Chandrapaul Hemraj, Raymon Reifer, Shamarh Brooks and Carlos Brathwaite as confirmed to be playing in the tournament. The player draft will be held on May 10th for the franchises to select a total of 13 players in their respective squads, with the domestic players set to take part in combine scouting sessions to be held at Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club on May 03rd and 04th to put forward their selection case to the coaches and the Franchise captains.
