ICC have confirmed that the Event Technical Committee of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2018 has now approved Afsar Zazai as a replacement player for Asghar Stanikzai in the Afghanistan squad for the remainder of the tournament.
Ashlar was originally ruled out for 10 days of action following the surgery.
A prominent figure in the middle-order for Afghanistan, Asghar has led them successfully in the past couple of years to multiple bi-lateral series and ICC Intercontinental Cup. Vice-captain Rashid Khan will lead the side in his absence for the entire duration of the tournament now.
Zazai, a wicket keeper-batsman, has represented Afghanistan in 17 ODI’s, playing mainly in the middle order, has 264 runs to his name. His last ODI appearance was against West Indies in Jun 2017.
