Cricket Uruguay have had a transformational change in the management structure during the non-playing period due to COVID-19 pandemic and have put forward some key targets to achieve for the organization in the next 3-5 year period.
The new committee consists of a President , Vice President , Treasurer, Women’s development officer, Community development officer and representatives of the club sides (Penarol, Victoria and Montevideo Wanderers). The Cricket board is looking to get more native Uruguayan players participate in the sport and have access to selection into the senior men’s, youth and ladies teams.
The Board hopes to see more touring teams come to the country for matches or tournaments, and have ambitions to have the facilities in place to host the South American Championships (Men’s, Women’s and Juniors) in Uruguay within the next 3-5 years. Uruguay men’s national squad took part in the 2017, 2018 and 2019 editions of the South American Championships. The same time-period will also be used to fulfill the International Cricket Council (ICC) criteria to get approved as an Associate member.
Cricket Uruguay have a good working relationship with Cricket Argentina, which saw the national squad travel to Belgrano, Buenos Aires in December 2018 to play a series of two T20 matches to mark the 150th Anniversary of the first match being played between the two countries in 1868.

It’s 2024 and Uruguay is still participating in SAC and moreover performing very well..so is there any update on it’s inclusion in ICC?
Hello Aditya
There is no update on whether the Uruguay Cricket Association are planning to apply for Associate membership or not. There are criteria to be fulfilled for that, before they can apply.
Thanks and regards,
