Malaysia’s MCA (Malaysia Cricket Association) President’s XI came up well short in their batting efforts against a strong and disciplined Sri Lanka Army XI, as they lost the match by 48 runs in a T20 contest played at Kinrara Oval in Malaysia.
The match belonged to two prominent performances from Ashan Randika, who smashed 89 runs from only 41 deliveries and Dushan Wimalasekara, who rattled the MCA President’s XI by picking up 4/21 off his 4 overs. Himasha Liyanage also had a good turn-out with the bat as he scored a quickfire 25 runs in the middle-order to build a 68 runs partnership for the 3rd wicket with Ashan at the top of the order. Credit to MCA President XI’s bowlers to pull back things and bowl Sri Lanka Army XI in 18.3 overs to leave them a target of 160 runs.
Muhammad Anwar A. Rahman was by far the pick of the bowling line-up as he picked up 4/33 in his 4 overs to set-up the good finish. In reply, the batting lacked the accelaration during the final stages of the innings. Seekkuge Prasanna bowled economically in the middle overs to give away only 16 runs in his 4 overs to build the pressure on the MCA President’s XI middle order line-up.
Mohd Suharril Fettri and Mohd Shukri Abdul Rahim added 46 runs for the sixth wicket but there was no momentum towards achieving the required rate, which was growing bigger with each delivery. Lots to do for Malaysia national squad members, who will be in action very soon in the ICC WCL Division 4 in their own country.
