It was a tale of two different captains leading their sides for the first time in an International game as Pieter Seelaar started his Dutch tenure in an emphatic T20 match win against Guernsey senior XI in their season opener at KGV Playing Fields.
A score of 115/9 was never going to be enough to restrict Netherlands A squad and Guernsey bowlers didn’t have much to defend and with Adam Wiffen smashing a quickfire 63 unbeaten runs from 42 deliveries. Tobias Visee was dismissed pretty early in the Dutch innings but Scott Edwards (45 off 40) put up 83 runs for the 2nd wicket along with Wiffen.
Earlier, Guernsey Senior XI crawled their way up-to 115 with notable contributions from Lucas Barker (42 off 33) and Ben Ferbrache (32 off 29) with Berend Westdijk (3/27) and Fred Klassen (2/20) making in-roads in the Guernsey batting line-up.
Mahesh Hans (0/18 off 3) and Pieter Seelaar (0/11 off 4) kept things tight in the middle overs and although there were no wickets for either of them, Guernsey batsmen couldn’t score freely of them.
The teams will meet up against for two T20 matches the following day with a 50-overs match between the two to wrap up Netherlands A tour of the Channel Island nation.
