Jersey denied double at Beckenham by Kent 2nd’s

Jersey players quickly found out the rigorous task of playing back-to-back matches as they failed to put up an encore performance from the first match in the 2nd game at Beckenham CCC against Kent 2nd XI.

A task that they have to endure in the one week of ICC WCL Division 4 in Malaysia against the likes of Malaysia, Vanuatu, Bermuda, Denmark and Uganda.

Jersey top-order didn’t get going as they lost their first 4 wickets inside the first 10 overs. Nick Ferraby once again bailed them out for some time before getting out for 34 runs from 52 deliveries off the bowling of Calum Haggett. Anthony Hawkins-Kay (17 off 26) and Jake Dunford (25 n.o off 44) managed to put up some runs but Jersey got bowled out for only 149 in the 37th over.

Kent 2nd XI bowlers, Ivan Thomas (1/24 off 7), Calum Haggett (2/17 off 7), Liam Pickering (3/23 off 6), Imran Qayyum (1/20 off 5) and Adam Riley (2/18 off 3.3) capped off an impressive team bowling performance, which was good during the first game as well.

Jersey bowlers managed to pick up two wickets but with so little to defend, it ended up as an easy chase for Kent 2nd’s, as they reached 151/2 in the 31st over with Ollie Robinson and Alex Blake remaining unbeaten on 57 and 34 respectively.

Come Bodenstein (1/19 off 6) and Nat Watkins (1/17 off 5) bowled well for Jersey. However, Jersey’s top bowler from the first match, Ben Stevens went wicket-less in his 4 overs.

Jersey will now play two 50-over matches against Hampshire County Club 2nd squad as part of their preparations before heading to Malaysia to take part in WCL Division 4 event at Apr-end.
