In a major boost financially for cricket in the Channel Islands, InfrasoftTech has announced sponsorship for the Annual Inter-Insular series in the 2018 edition of the historic event. InfrasoftTech is a Fintech company specialising in digital solutions & software for the Banking, Financial Services and Insurance sectors, based in Mumbai, India.
With European sub-regional qualifiers for ICC WorldT20 set to be held in Netherlands in Aug – Sep 2018, both Jersey Cricket Board and Cricket Guernsey agreed to opt out of the traditional play format of 50-overs for the Annual Inter-Insular Trophy for 2018. Both countries will play a 3-match series in T20 format on 17th and 18th Aug, 2018 at Farmers ground in Jersey. The 2019 edition will once again be played in the traditional 50-overs format in Guernsey.
Wayne Gallichan, Senior Business Development Manager from InfrasoftTech said on Jersey Cricket website “as InfrasoftTech continues to innovate and grow our business in both Jersey and Guernsey, supporting local communities is an important element of such growth. Cricket is a major passion within Indian culture. The development of cricket in the Islands has been quite extraordinary and we are delighted to support this innovative format ahead of the European qualifiers”.
“It was always going to be tricky fitting in the club and representative fixtures this year and we did not want to cut anything short by favouring one over the other,” said Mark Latter, Guernsey Cricket Board Director of cricket.
“This solution is a great compromise and allows us to do everything. The Inter Insular Trophy is steeped in history and we respect that and look forward to returning to the 50 overs format here in Guernsey in 2019.”
“This exciting development as a one-off replacement for the Inter-Insular Trophy this year will help both countries in their preparation for the important European T20 tournament later in August,” said Chris Minty, Jersey Cricket Board. “It should produce an exciting weekend of cricket which we hope will be well supported and both countries are committed to reverting to the traditional format in 2019.”
