In what could be termed as a rare victory in the past few months in an International game, Kenya edged past Zimbabwe Board XI in their first group match in the Zimbabwe T20 Tri-series at Old Hararians.
Put into bat first, Zimbabwe Board XI managed to score 123/9 in their 20 overs with Kenyan bowlers putting up a good show to set up the match for their batsmen. Lucas Oluoch (3/26) and Collins Obuya (2/9) were the stars with the ball for Kenya.
None of the Board XI batsmen were able to contribute more other than former Zimbabwe captain, Elton Chigumbura, who remained stranded and unbeaten on 60 runs in the end.
Alex Obanda gave a good start by hitting 26 runs for the team but former captain, Rakep Patel, saw off the challenge with a composed knock of 53 runs and remained unbeaten in the end to guide Kenya to victory, reaching 125/5 in 19.2 overs.
Natsai M’shangwe picked up 2/21 and Brandon Mavuta (1/19) did well for Zimbabwe Board XI.
In the 2nd match of the day, Board XI suffered another loss to Zimbabwe Select. Kenya play both Board XI and Zimbabwe Select on 13th Jun 2018.
