Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) completed a successful tour of China as they played 2 matches on the Chinese leg of the tour followed by a tour to Hong Kong.
Having arrived in Shanghai after a long journey, the MCC players indulged in some sightseeing in the Shanghai nightlife before getting down to cricket business the next day.
The first match was a 40 overs game against Shanghai Cricket Club and MCC were well placed at 171/4 in 35 overs when the weather intervened and no play was possible after that. Chris Greaves (46 n.o) and Simon Guy (49 n.o) were cutting loose when the rain arrived to spoil the game.
The next day saw some early morning coaching sessions with the China XI squad before taking them on in a 20 overs match. MCC batted first and posted 161/7 in their 20 overs. Hassan Khan (50), Yasir Arafat (31) & Edward Wharton (22) scored the majority of the runs for MCC. P.Qing (4/26) was the pick of the Chinese bowlers on display.
In reply, China XI were restricted to 98/6 in their 20 overs with D.Z. Ma scoring a well paced 50 runs and Arafat picking up 2/15 in the bowling efforts for MCC. Wilkinson, Green & Crick also picked up a wicket apiece.
