Namibia beat Eastern Province in South Africa’s Sunfoil 3-day Cup series

Namibia continued their good form in the Sunfoil 3-day Cup as they defeated South Africa’s Eastern Province by 108 runs at Port Elizabeth from Jan 11th – 13th, 2018.

Eastern Province won the toss and invited Namibia to bat first and the bowlers did a good job to bowl out Namibia for 226 in 57 overs in their 1st innings. There were good knocks by Jan Frylinck (56 off 78), Niko Davin (47 off 37), Zane Green (34 off 53) and Stephan Baard (33 off 52) in the Namibian innings but the batsmen would have liked to get more after getting settled in the middle.

Thokozani Peter, Kelly Smuts, Onke Nyaku & Luvuyo Adam picked up 2 wickets apiece for Eastern Province in the 1st innings. However, Namibian bowlers came back strongly to dismiss Eastern Province for only 120 in 33.3 overs to take a good 1st innings lead of 106 runs.

Tladi Bokako (56 off 58) brought some credibility to Eastern’s 1st innings among all the wickets falling around him as Craig Williams (3/20), JJ Smit (3/46), Jan Frylinck (2/12) & Christiaan Snyman (2/13) combined well together to restrict Eastern to a low total. The bowlers setup the match nicely for Namibian batters in the 2nd innings.

Jan Frylinck saved Namibia blushes in the 2nd innings as well as he top-scored with 75 runs off 76 deliveries as Namibia got bowled out for 214 in 62.2 overs in their 2nd innings. Stephan Baard (41 off 74) got a good start but failed to convert it in a bigger knock. Niko Davin also had a good match as he scored 44 runs in the 2nd innings.

Lutho Sipamla (3/26) and Luvuyo Adam (3/36) were the pick of the bowlers for Eastern Province in the 2nd innings. Eastern thus had a big target of 321 runs to win the match.

Namibia bowlers kept picking wickets at regular intervals to dismiss Eastern Province for 212 in 51.5 overs to win the match by 108 runs. Christiaan Snyman (4/35) and Craig Williams (3/37) were the main wreckers-in-chief for Namibia in the 2nd innings. Bernard Scholtz also chipped in with 2 wickets to lend good support to the main wicket-takers.

For Eastern, Matthew Christensen (66 off 119) and Kelly Smuts (40 off 38) were the top-scorers for Eastern Province in the 2nd innings.
