Oman national cricket team skipper and wicket-keeper-batsman of Passage to India (PTI), Sultan Ahmed, who got involved in a controversy during a recent Oman Cricket (OC) Premier Division match against Al Turki NMC, has been handed a three-match ban by Cricket Board of Oman, for his “unsportsmanlike act” on Tuesday.
The incident happened on October 6 when Ahmed’s successful appeal for a hit-wicket decision against Al Turki batsman Twinkle Bhandari, off the bowling of Jaymin Tailor was caught live on the video camera, which, incidentally, were installed for the first time by the OC on that day and showed the actual turn of events.
The cameras had caught Ahmed dislodging the bails with his boots while initially appealing for a leg-before decision. However, after dislodging the bails, Ahmed again appealed for a hit-wicket decision from umpire Anantha Kumar Rajamani. Rajamani, consulted his co-umpire, Azad Kumar, at square-leg, and with the bails on the ground, Bhandari was declared out.
According to OC, the ban on Ahmed is based on a Level II offence and the sanction will be effective from October 14. The incident happened in the domestic circuit and most like will not attract any de-merit points from the ICC.
