Rashid’s record-breaking year saw him deliver consistent spells filled with wickets galore in International cricket, ICC Intercontinental Cup and all the major T20 League across the globe including Indian Premier League, Caribbean Premier League, Bangladesh Premier League and now a vital cog in Adelaide Strikers squad in Big Bash.
Rashid picked up 43 ODI wickets from 16 matches and 17 wickets from 10 T20I matches in the calender year of 2017.
With ICC set to announce the winners of 2017 Annual awards, Rashid Khan is in line to win not just one but 3 awards after being nominated in the following award categories:
1) 2017 Associate Cricketer of the Year: yes, Afghanistan is a Test nation now but for the first-half of 2017, they were still an Associate country.
2) T20I performance of the year: Rashid’s mesmerizing spell of 5/3 off 2 overs against Ireland in India being one of the best spells of T20 International cricket.
3) ODI player of the year: Rashid’s demolition of West Indies with the spell of 7/18 being the best ODI bowling performance for 2017.
