It’s not often that we get to see USA cricket team in action, or even get to hear about them touring other countries for playing cricket.
Much has changed in the past couple of years, though. A dismissal of the previous Cricket Board by the ICC, the appointment of head coach Pubudu Dassanayake, the creation of the new governing body for USA cricket, Auty Cup success after 26 years against Canada and place in ICC WCL Division 3.
Personnel changes have also worked wonders for the team. Former Hyderabad Ranji player, Ibrahim Khalil was appointed as national captain for the Auty Cup series and for the upcoming tour of UAE & Oman. Steven Taylor, who has earlier been vocal about qualifying to play for West Indies, is not part of the team set-up anymore.
Dassanayake, who has a reputable track record in coaching Associate Cricket teams, will know that the upcoming matches will help USA cricket to grow and improve in the longer term.
An One Day Tournament series comprising matches against Nepal & Kenya in Abu Dhabi followed by a 3-match ODI tour of Oman will help USA players get the opportunity to play in different conditions and develop the team culture.
USA will get to know which 2 teams will join them from Division 4 in 2018, slated to take place in Malaysia. They missed out to Canada & Oman in the previously held Division 3 tournament in Uganda early this year.
