To promote cricket amongst British Nepalese players, the first ever British Gorkhali Cricket League has been launched, which will be a Sunday 40-overs league in the UK. The League (BGCL) is affiliated with Hampshire Cricket Board, National Asian Cricket Council, Club Cricket Conference among others.
The Hampshire-based league will be key to development of the sport in the British Nepalese community including various regiments of Brigade of Gurkhas. The inaugural edition of the league will see seven team’s competing, namely Naya Yuva Cricket Club, Queen Gurkha Signals Cricket Club, Khukuri Cricket Club, Ramailo Cricket Club, Nepalese Warriors Cricket Club, Invicta Cricket Club and Himalayan Cricket Club.
The League organizers and management are currently looking for sponsorships, that will be used to manage league provisions and charities support, with Marylebone Cricket Club Foundation also working along with the organization.
The league will give opportunities for the likes of Ramesh Gurung (Queen Gurkha Signals Cricket Club), Amol Karki (Queen Gurkha Signals Cricket Club) and Gam Gurung (Naya Yuva Cricket Club) to showcase their skills and get more chances in the future in Hampshire region’s domestic cricket circuit.
