Fiji to resume cricket activities with T10 tournaments from Jun 2020

Cricket Fiji have got the permission from Fiji National Sports Commission to resume cricket activities in the South Pacific island nation, after the government announced that the country is free of the COVID-19 pandemic on 05th Jun 2020.

Cricket Fiji will be hosting a number of T10 competitions across various regions from Jun 2020 onwards, with the Bula Bash T10 in Suva to kick-start from 27th Jun 2020, along with Nadi / Lautoka regional T10 competition, and in Lauan and Island Associations later in August and September. A women’s T10 competition will also be organized in the coming weeks and more details about it will be announced by the board in due course of time.

The T10 competitions in Suva and Nadi will take place from 27th Jun – 05th Jul, 2020. Fiji thus becomes the 2nd Pacific Island after Vanuatu to resume cricket activities in the domestic circuit. Vanuatu successfully hosted their men’s T10 competition, BetBarter Vanuatu Blast in the past few weeks and got worldwide viewership for their streaming efforts on Facebook and YouTube platforms.

For access to all the clubs and players, Cricket Fiji have also ensured that no registration fees will be collected from the clubs, who register for the T10 competition. 12 Clubs have registered in the Suva T10 leg and have been grouped into two groups. Group A comprises of Army Club, MOCE Club, BSP Titans, Nasaqalau Club, Oneata Club and Sarafui/Vicc, while Group B will consist of Police Club, Ono-I-Lau Club, Lakeba Club, Komo Club, Total Club and CF Development Squad (comprising of U19 players).

All matches in the Suva leg of the T10 competition will be played at Albert Park ground, which has hosted ICC East Asia-Pacific sub-regional qualifiers in Aug 2018, which was the qualification pathway towards 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers in UAE. Matches in the Nadi T10 competition will be played at the Namaka Public School ground. The opening day action on 27th Jun will see all the 12 clubs in Suva in play as both pitches on Albert Park will host 5 matches each in both the groups.

Match scores, team news and all the latest updates from the tournament will be updated on Cricket Fiji’s Cricclubs page.
