Cricket Canada have announced the 15-member men’s national sauad, which will take part in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup qualifiers in UAE from Oct 18th – Nov 02nd, 2019. Canada are grouped alongside UAE, Ireland, Hong Kong, Jersey, Oman and Nigeria in Group B of the qualifiers.
Top team from each group will move to the semi-final of the tournament, securing direct qualification to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020, with three more teams from each group featuring in qualification play-offs to determine the other four qualifiers.
Canada qualified for the tournament from the ICC Americas regional finals along with Bermuda and were recently involved in ICC CWC Challenge League Group A tournament in Malaysia, where they emerged as the top team along with Singapore on equal points in the 6-team event. The squad members were also given good exposure along with Internaitonal overseas professionals during GT20 Canada tournament and the experiences will definitely make them a stronger unit in the T20 format.
Canada will face Singapore and Kenya on Oct 14th and 15th in their official warm-up matches before the tournament proper gets underway from 18th.
