Cricket Canada (CC) is partnering with Minor League Cricket (MiLC) and Boundaries North to identify potential ownership groups and communities to establish Minor League Cricket teams across Canada in future seasons. Launched earlier this year, Boundaries North is a new initiative working with Cricket Canada and all Canadian industry stakeholders to establish a healthy and economically prosperous sporting ecosystem for cricket across the country. Boundaries North will take the lead role in identifying Canadian ownership groups.
Zubin Surkari, Tournament Director, Minor League Cricket in the press release “We are thrilled to partner with Canada Cricket and Boundaries North to identify, establish and launch Canadian Minor League Cricket teams. Canada’s rich multicultural fabric and passion for sports make it an ideal setting for cricket to flourish – together we can nurture emerging cricket talent and foster a strong cricketing ecosystem to benefit the sport across North America.”
Cricket Canada is doing its bit to reprise the growth of domestic cricket after gaining ODI status. Earlier this year, the reprisal of GT20 Canada tournament was also announced, and it will be taking place in July 2023. With Minor League system in place, the players will have a longer window of domestic cricket to play in throughout the calendar year. Cricket Canada will be hosting home games in the next cycle of CWC League 2 tournament, and domestic competitions will be key to identify players from their pathway programs.
