Jersey’s Ben Ward in line to play in South Africa’s MODC with Cape Cobras

Benjamin Ward, Jersey national squad member, who has represented the country in T20I cricket, is in line to make his debut for Six Gun Grill Cape Cobras franchise in South Africa’s Momentum One-Day Cup tournament (List-A), which is taking place at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom.

Ben Ward was named in the 16-member squad for Cape Cobras by head coach Ashwell Prince, and will play alongside the likes of Zubayr Hamza and Janneman Malan, who have played for South Africa in ODI/Test cricket.

Ben Ward is a South African passport holder, and represented the Maties cricket club in the Varsity Cup matches held at the same venue and his all-round capabilities are a good fit for the Cape Cobras squad for the tournament.

22-year old Ward was part of Jersey’s squad during the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers held in UAE and was one of the top performers for the team with 100 runs with the bat and 6 wickets with the ball from 6 matches played during the competition. Ward made his list-A debut for Boland province in February 2020 after a successful stint with Maties during Varsity Cup tournament (13 wickets from 8 matches) and Boland’s 50-overs Premier League tournament (17 wickets from 10 matches).

Jersey have a busy 2021 schedule with them also hosting the 2nd round of ICC 2023 CWC Challenge League event, and Ward’s experience with the Cape Cobras squad during the MODC tournament will be an added advantage for Jersey’s national squad set-up.
