English County, Northamptonshire cricket club, will visit the Cayman Islands on a pre-season development tour from Feb 13th -23rd 2020. The visit is part of the 2-year strategic partnership agreement made between Northamptonshire and Cayman Cricket.

The touring party will comprise members of the Club’s Academy and senior members of the clubs first XI squad. The touring party also includes coaching education and other specialists, who will conduct coaching and development courses during their stay.

“Cayman Cricket is very excited about this development.  This is a major breakthrough for us, and was the result of persistent efforts by us over several months.  We have long hoped to establish Cayman as a destination of choice for international cricket teams to train and play.  Besides providing valuable opportunities for the development of our own players and coaches, tours such as these have the potential for opening up completely new avenues for sports tourism and previously untapped tourism markets.” Hector Robinson, President of Cayman Cricket, was quoted on Northants club website.

Cayman Islands men’s squad will play two T20 matches, while a Presidents XI squad will play a 2-day match during the clubs stay in the country. The tour will also see the Club play two more T20 matches (one each against Secretary XI and CCPL All Stars squads). All matches will be played at the Jimmy Powell Oval in West Bay.

Cayman Islands will be seen later in the year in the ICC 2021 Men’s T20 World Cup Americas regional qualifiers.
