Australia-based PNG player competes in T20 Bash event in Mackay

Cricket PNG (Papua New Guinea) CEO Greg Campbell and newly appointed Head Coach Carl Sandri haven’t been able to visit PNG due to travel restrictions in place, and it has denied Sandri to interact one-on-one with the national squad members.

However, one of the squad members, Chad Soper has also been in Australia since the pandemic outbreak and subsequent lock-downs globally, and able to play club-level cricket is currently taking part in the inaugural edition of MI Scaffold Great Barrier Reef Arena T20 Bash for Cash competition being played in Mackay.

The open registration T20 tournament is being played from May 01st – 03rd at the Harrup Park Country Club in Mackay, which has six turf wicket ovals at the same location, with two ovals equipped with lights that includes the the Great Barrier Reef Arena, which will host the final.

Soper is playing for the Flint Tropics team, which is among the 20 teams participating in the competition, with clubs from Mackay, Brisbane, Townsville, Toowoomba and Bundaberg taking part in the competition.
