CHK Dragons players look for a promising year in 2018 HKT20 Blitz

Cricket Hong Kong have always been supportive about the growth of cricket in Mainland China and their team in the Sunday Elite League (50-overs) features the Cricket Hong Kong Dragons, which features Chinese-origin cricketers plying their trade in HK’s domestic structure.

To ensure their growth, HKT20 Blitz franchises are required to have one player from the CHK Dragons team in their squads for the tournament as part of the development program on spreading the awareness of cricket in Hong Kong’s Chinese community.

The 5 players for 2018 HKT20 Blitz are as follows:

  1. City Kaitak – Seigfried Wai
  2. Galaxy Gladiators Lantau – Li Kai-Ming
  3. Hong Kong Island United – Jason Lui
  4. Hung Hom JD Jaguars – Damien Yee
  5. Kowloon Cantons – Bobby Chan

The players as part of CHK Dragons, took part in the 2016 East Asia Cup in Japan and will be expected to form the core of the team when the 2018 edition of the tournament will be held, most likely during the later half of the year.

The Dragons team have been taking part in the Sunday Elite 50-overs competition and the performances of the above mentioned 5 players have been satisfactory at one level but have been mostly modest.

Player Team MAT INN 100’s 50’s Highest Runs Average
Jason Lui Cricket Hong Kong 2 2 0 1 92 108 54
Damien Yee Cricket Hong Kong 4 4 0 0 34 65 16.25
Li Kai Ming Cricket Hong Kong 4 4 0 0 24 38 9.5
Siegfried Wai Cricket Hong Kong 4 4 0 0 13 29 7.25
Bobby Chan Cricket Hong Kong 4 4 0 0 15 29 14.5

The bowling performances for Li Kai-Ming & Seigfried Wai have also not been significant but the returns doesn’t justify the talent. Li Kai-Ming has been seen as a special talent with the ball and more exposure is required to further his progress.

Player Team MAT Runs Wickets 5W’s Best Bowling Economy
Siegfried Wai Cricket Hong Kong 4 131 1 0 1/28 5.78
Li Kai Ming Cricket Hong Kong 4 173 4 0 2/29 5.77

With heavy presence of Overseas players and Hong Kong’s International players in the line-ups for all the franchise team, it remains to be seen on how the contribution of these players will come to the fore in the league matches. In terms of increasing skill levels for these players, the sheer opportunity of training and playing alongside the International talent will definitely go a long way in their development.

The players look forward to another promising year and with one game guaranteed for the Dragons players out of the total league matches for all the franchises, they would look to impress and get more than the solitary game.
