Coetzer’s Maiden Century Gets Kaitak off the Mark

City Kaitak beat HKI United in Game 2 of the 2018 HK T20 Blitz

In a 180 degree turnaround from yesterday’s performance, City Kaitak have got their first win on the board on the back of a superb century from opener Kyle Coetzer and some excellent bowling by Aizaz Khan and Ravi Bopara over Hong Kong Island United by 26 runs in the first game of day two.

In very cool overcast conditions HKI elected to field first. After losing the power play the day before, openers Rath and Coetzer took the score to 54 for no loss with Anshuman scoring 28 at over two runs a ball. Coetzer was 24 from 23 deliveries.

Former Hong Kong skipper Tanwir Afzal come in for a bit of treatment going for 32 in his three powerplay overs which forced a change with him taking himself off – Afzal would usually bowl his four overs straight.

CKT continued to press the advantage bringing up the 100 from exactly ten overs. Rath went for 35 from 22 mistiming Ehsan Khan to be caught at long on the next ball but Ravi Bopara picked up where Anshuman left off.

Coezter’s 50 came up from 36 balls and his second 50 only took another 28 rocks. 100 proved the magic number for HKI with Coezter dismissed the next ball.

Bopara finished on 48 from 30 and City end up on 195/4. Ehsan Khan was the pick of the bowlers taking 1 for 23 from his 4.

The only HKI batters to get anything more than a start were Ryan ten Doeschate who got 52 from 45 – but still struggled to find his famous timing – and recently Hong Kong-selected Ahsan Abbasi who’s 32 from 18 was collected when the game was all but gone.

Emirt was the pick of the bowlers taking 4 for 34 from his full allotment and Aizaz Khan was excellent again with 2 for 29. The other wicket takers were Sohail Tanvir (2/37) and Ravi Bopara (1/28).
