Two contrasting matches on day 2 of RUSLAN Dhangadhi Premier League 2 saw a low-scoring affair and a match where the chasing team simply gave it away to their opponents like festival sweets.
The first match lasted little over 2 overs more than a T20 innings quota of 20. Now, if a match ends within 23rd over of the entire match quota, something went horribly wrong on the batting front of one of the teams and Rupandehi Challengers will quickly like to forget this one and move onto their next group match. Not that CYC Attariya would complain. An early showers for the players due to some wonderful bowling effort from two U19 Nepal players, which rocked the Rupandehi innings and if not for Oman’s Sufyan Mehmood’s unbeaten knock of 20 runs, CYC Attariya would have looked at a target below 50.
The second match saw much more action with Mahendranagar United able to post 160+ thanks much to the returning player from Bhairahawa Gladiators in Everest Premier League, Punit Bista along with handy contributions from Binod Bhandari, Aarif Sheikh and Puneet Mehra. An average on-par score on any given T20 match day.
What followed was sublime. Babar Hayat, also returning after his stint with Biratnagar Warriors in Everest Premier League, started to look as if he would have broken all T20 batting records. Biratnagar Kings knocked off 68 runs in the power-play and required 101 more to win the contest. And after Babar went out with a strike-rate of 320, Kings managed to lose the contest by 33 runs. Mind-boggling as none of the remaining batsmen took the onus on them to guide the team to the target. And that too, managing to get out in 19 overs and not even play out your entire innings after that kind of a start. Some serious re-thinking required in terms of how to pace the innings in the next games.
There have been hot and cold performances during the day in both the games and no team will be happy entirely with their overall efforts that left a lot to be desired. All will hope for better performances in the next round of matches and the ones who manage to churn out consistent outings in the park, will start to create a gap with the others in the points table. Still, early days and lots of cricket to be played in the upcoming days. Let’s see how the third day unfolds.
