Broadcast of franchise-based T20 league in Nepal, Everest Premier League (EPL T20) has been moved to Lex Sportel Vision owned premier sports channel, 1Sports, amidst the dispute over the DSport rights. The current dispute for DSport ownership between the Lex Sportel Vision and Discovery Communications India has also disrupted the distribution network across the region.
R.C. Venkateish, MD, Lex Sportel, said, “As Lex Sportel, we have been bringing the best of quality sporting action to the Indian sports fans. 1Sports will continue to bring the same properties as provided to fans earlier with a different brand name. We want to ensure that the fans continue to get the most out of their favourite sport on our channel.”
The Cricket programming portfolio for the channel will include the broadcast rights of Everest Premier League T20 in Nepal in Feb/Mar 2020. The league has been making news lately after professional cricketers from Sri Lanka (Upal Tharanga), West Indies (Dwayne Smith) and Afghanistan (Mohammad Shahzad) signed up to play the tournament in 2020.
The channel currently also has the broadcast production rights for other T20 leagues, such as Afghanistan Premier League and Pakistan Super League. The company is also planning to bid for Sri Lanka’s Cricket sports rights this year.
