Dubai to host Fairbreak Global Women’s T20 Invitational in 2022

Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) will be the host of the global women’s T20 Invitational tournament in 2022 from May 01st – 15th in Dubai, organized by Fairbreak Global, the global gender equality initiative. The privately funded tournament sponsored by Gencor is approved by International Cricket Council (ICC) and will see six team’s compete in a total of 19 matches for the title, as players from across the globe (full members and associate members) will participate in the event, with the matches being given International status.

Sue Strachan (President of Cricket Scotland), Julie Abbott (National Co-Ordinator of Women’s Cricket USA), Rene Montgomery (Hong Kong) and Saba Nasim (BEM and Chance to Shine Ambassador) have been confirmed as Team managers for the tournament. Anju Jain (India), Charlotte Edwards (England), Joanne Broadbent (Australia), Julia Price (Australia) and Lydia Greenway (England) have been confirmed as the coaches for the franchises.

The initiative is intended to bring forth the major Gender Equality issues, which is faced by Women’s cricketers across the globe. The previously held event in 2018 has garnered huge praise from all corners of the press and fans alike and such more initiative’s in the future will go a long way in securing the future of Women’s Cricket and their Equality rights. Having players from many Associate nations during the 2018 event was one of the many highlights and for the 2022 tournament, the player selection process is currently underway, with Bhutan Women’s national squad member Anju Gurung getting selected to play in the tournament.

FairBreak has also launched Captain’s Cause initiative, working with their CSR partner, SolarBuddy, aimed at ending energy poverty. The initiative has received widespread recognition from players from Associate member countries like USA, UAE, Singapore, Hong Kong, Germany, Vanuatu and many more. And for the 2022 tournament, players have been selected from various Associate countries which includes the likes of Argentina, Brazil, Nepal, Botswana, Bhutan, Japan, Netherlands, Oman, Singapore, Rwanda, Thailand, USA, Vanuatu, Sweden, Scotland and Philippines.
