Few positives for Canada in Windies regional U19 One-day tournament

The young U19 Squad of Canada is having a rough time out in the middle in the ongoing West Indies U19 One-day Championships, having lost their five matched played so far and one final group match remaining.

The Windies regional U19 One-day Championship is being played from 16th – 29th Aug, 2018 at Arnos Vale Playing Field, Sion Hill Playing Field, Park Hill Playing Field, and Cumberland Playing Field in St. Vincent.

The experience of playing the top U19 players in West Indies will however be beneficial in the longer term when Canada U19 take part in ICC U19 CWC Americas Division 1 qualifiers in 2019.

There have been few notable performances in the tournament so far amongst the disappointing results with Kavian Naresh emerging as a potential future International having made two half-centuries in the tournament and is currently the leading run-scorer for Canada U19 with 121 runs in the matches played so far. Naresh has also picked up wickets, displaying his all-round capabilities.

Raqib Shamsudeen has also been among the runs, with 86 runs to his name so far in the competition. Randhir Sandhu is another youngster, who has shown positive intent at times in the batting department and doubles up as a handy bowler as well.
