Norway and France head to Germany for T20I Tri-series in August 2021

Cricket Germany (DCB) will be hosting the men’s national teams from France and Norway from August 05th – 08th, 2021 in a T20I Tri-series at the National performance center at Krefeld. Spain, who were also originally scheduled to participate, had to withdraw recently due to COVID-19 pandemic related travel and quarantine restrictions, that came into effect last week.

DCB was hopeful of organizing the tournament once the situation improves in the country, after the originally scheduled event in May 2021 was also postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic travel restrictions. With Germany due to play the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup European regional finals in Spain in October 2021, the Tri-series tournament will be very crucial for the teams preparations.

Germany and Norway previously met in a T20I during the 2019 Europe Regional Finals held in Guernsey in June 2019, in which Germany registered a comfortable win over their opponents during the single round-robin group stage format competition. Domestic competitions are currently taking place in all the three participating countries, and with all the match carrying official T20I team points, the event will be crucial for the countries to improve upon their ranking in the ICC Team rankings table. Norway were the only team among the three participants to have played competitive games in 2020 during the global lockdowns, having toured Denmark in July.

DCB are constructing the National cricket performance center at Krefeld in collaboration with SC Bayer 05 Uerdingen. Krefeld will be the location for training camps for Germany’s national teams and also host International matches and tournaments. A three lane indoor training net facility is also been constructed by British company EZYnet. While the Krefeld facility hosted an European Cricket Series (ECS T10) event from May 17th – 29th, 2021, the German Women’s national squad hosted their counterparts from France in July 2021 for a 4-match T20I series at the venue. Much like the Women’s event, the Men’s Tri-series will be covered by European Cricket Network.
