Guyana Jaguars batting too strong for USA in CWI Super50 Regional

USA lost their 2nd consecutive match in Cricket West Indies Super50 Regional tournament against Guyana Jaguars at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium in Antigua by 8 wickets.

USA batted first and were in early trouble losing their first 3 wickets with only 10 runs on board. Former IPL player, Sunny Sohal collected his 2nd duck in as many games and Jaskaran Malhotra & Ibraheem Khalil also departed without troubling the scorers. Xavier Marshall (51 off 83) steadied the ship along with Timil Patel (16 off 41) to take USA to 70 before Timil got dismissed.

USA got into further troubles as Marshall got dismissed after reaching his half-century and Guyana made further in-roads into the batting line-up. From 99/7, it took a courageous partnership of 89 runs for the 8th wicket between Mrunal Patel (43 n.o off 87) & Elmore Hutchinson (45 off 57) to take USA to 188/8 in their 50 overs.

Veerasammy Permaul (2/29), Keemo Paul (2/32) & Raymond Riefer (2/43) were the pick of the bowlers for Guyana Jaguars. Devendra Bishoo (1/15 off 10 overs) bowled a brilliant economic spell to curb down on USA’s run-scoring.

USA had a good start with their bowling as Hutchinson picked up Chanderpaul Hemraj with Guyana score at 19/1. More troubles followed for Guyana as Shivnarine Chanderpaul retired hurt after making 8 runs from 33 deliveries. All hopes USA had in the match quickly went away as Shimron Hetmyer (103 off 69) took the attack to the USA bowlers and destroyed their bowling plans as he smashed 7 sixes in his whirlwind knock.

Leon Johnson (50 n.o off 63) gave good support to Shimron as the pair put on 169 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket which almost took Guyana to their target before Hetmyer got dismissed by Netravalkar. Raymond Reifer (11 n.o off 12) stayed with Leon to take Guyana to victory as they reached 191/2 in 32.2 overs to win the match by 8 wickets.
