Henry Tyler appointed in a player-cum-coach role for Philippines in T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers

Philippines Cricket Association (PCA) have announced the appointment of Henry Tyler in a player-cum-coach role for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers in Oman from February 15th – 25th, 2022. Tyler, based currently in Melbourne, has been coaching Northcote club in the Victorian Premier Cricket Club competition in the 2021/2022 season, having previously coached Banyule Cricket Club in Melbourne for three seasons.

Tyler made his T20I debut for Philippines during the East Asia-Pacific regional finals held in Papua New Guinea in March 2019, where their results became the factor in them edging past Vanuatu for the spot into the 2022 Global Qualifiers, as the regional finals in 2021 was cancelled owing to COVID-19 pandemic situation in the region. He, however, has been the part of the squad since 2015.

The Global Qualifiers will be the first major appearance for the Men’s team at an ICC level competition, and the players have been playing domestic cricket at home, with the recently concluded Iain Sinclair Memorial T10 tournament in December 2021, where Siva Mohan and Arun Gaikwad of Agilas United were adjudged the best batter and bowler in the tournament. Another exciting prospect for Philippines in the tournament will be Miggy Podosky, who plays for Bendigo United club in grade level competitions in Australia.
