Hong Kong will have an extended tour of UAE in Nov/Dec 2017 they are set to play 7 matches across all formats against multiple opponents.
Hong Kong will first take on Papua New Guinea in their final ICC Intercontinental Cup (4-day) match from Nov 29th – Dec 02nd. The tour will follow with 2 crucial World Cricket League Championship matches against the same opponents.
Hong Kong have also announced additional 4 matches (1 T20 and 3 50-overs) against Cricket Oman. The matches will provide Oman good preparatory matches for the upcoming ICC WCL Division 2 tournament in Feb 2018 in Namibia. If Hong Kong fail to secure the Top 4 spots after their 2 WCL matches, then they will also be part of the 6-team Division 2 event.
“We’ve got a bigger pool of players, with Scott (Mckechnie), Jamie (Atkinson) and Nadeem (Ahmed) cleared from their work commitments and available for WCL, which also helps from a workload point of view,” coach Simon Cook said.
“The tour includes seven limited overs games and one four day match so there’s a lot of cricket for us to get through. Scott brings a lot of experience of playing high level cricket in England and brings us options with his wicket-keeping and balancing the team as well as competition for places.”
“This is as close as we can get to the strongest squad we can put out available.”
Hong Kong currently sit fourth on the points table on 14 points, four behind leaders The Netherlands, which still leaves the door ajar for Hong Kong to win the World Cricket League with two victories over the second-placed PNG.
“It’s nice to have your strongest squad out for the most important fixtures,” Cook said.
