ICC suspends Zimbabwe, Croatia and Zambia, while Morocco is expelled

International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) with immediate effect at the conclusion of 2019 Annual Conference in London. ICC funding to Zimbabwe Cricket will be stopped and Zimbabwe national squads (men’s and women’s) will not be allowed to participate in any ICC events in the next three months.

Upon progress and reinstatement of ZC board, the matter will be up for review again in ICC’s October meeting. This puts tremendous pressure on Zimbabwe Cricket to get their affairs in order, or else the national squad will not be allowed to take part in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup global qualifiers, slated for Oct/Nov 2019 in UAE. The Women’s squad will not be allowed to take part in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup global qualifiers in Scotland in Aug 2019 as well.

Zimbabwe Cricket are in breach of Article 2.4 (c) and (d) of the ICC Constitution which imposes an obligation on Members to provide a process for free and democratic elections and to ensure that there is no government interference in its governance and / or administration for cricket respectively.

The Croatia Cricket Federation and the Zambia Cricket Union have been suspended as well for continuing non-compliance with ICC Membership criteria, while The Moroccan Royal Cricket Federation have continued to remain non-compliant with ICC Membership Criteria 2.2(b)(ii), 2.2(b)(iii), 2.2(b)(iv) and 2.2(e)(i) and as such has been expelled from Membership of the ICC.
