Sandeep Lamichhane eligible in IPL Transfer window

Indian Premier League Franchises have a twelve day window from October 12th – 16th for mid-season player transfers, who have played less than two matches to be traded to another franchise.

Delhi Capitals (previously known as Delhi Daredevils, before their name change in 2019) overseas player from Nepal, Sandeep Lamichhane is eligible along with several other players to be traded to other teams. Delhi’s spin bowling department and overseas players other than Sandeep have dominated the playing XI, with half season of IPL group stage already over.

If traded by Delhi, Sandeep could be a handy pick for either Rajasthan Royals or Kolkata Knight Riders, who might be looking for extra leg-spinning bowling options in their armoury. Sandeep’s contract with Delhi Capitals will also be coming to an end after the conslusion of 2020 Indian Premier League, currently being played in the UAE due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions on sports activities in India.

The mid-season transfer window is set to begin on 13th October 2020, after all teams have played at least seven matches in the group stages of the competition. During this window, the teams will be allowed to buy players from other sides – both Indian and overseas – if they are yet to play more than two matches this season.

The other Associate member country player in IPL 2020, Ali Khan from USA, who is currently injured and with Kolkata Knight Riders squad, is also eligible for trade during the mid-season transfer. However, with KKR having brought in Khan as a injury replacement player for Harry Gurney, it is unlikely that the franchise will go that route as of this season.

As the pitches in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah get more slower in nature during the final stages of the group games, Sandeep could still feature in Delhi Capitals playing XI and play a prominent part in their campaign, due to his experience of having played in UAE earlier as part of World Cricket League (WCL) matches.

The lending franchise will get the mutually agreed amount between two franchises, which is not subject to a salary cap. Fifty per cent of the loan fee will have to be paid “within 7 days of registration” and the rest “within 7 days of the final match of the season”.
