It’s Ireland/Bangladesh & Thailand/PNG in WT20 Qualifier semis

Back in Jul 2018, both Ireland and Bangladesh faced each other in the final of the Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers in Netherlands, having qualified for the main tournament in West Indies. Cut to Sep 2019, and both the nations will again face each other, but this time for a place in the main tournament in Australia in 2020, as a resurgent Thailand got the better of Ireland Women in the final group stage match to top the group and will now meet Papua New Guinea Women in the semi-final, who finished 2nd in the other group. What it means that one of these member country will qualify to play their maiden Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia.

Bangladesh topped their group after their win against the host’s Scotland, who were knocked out of the race for the semis, after PNG Lewas secured a win over USA Women and consolidated their position in the points table. Netherlands registered their first win in the tournament over Namibia in the final group stage match in their group. Scotland, Netherlands, Namibia and USA will now contest in the 5th-8th place play-off’s.

The final on 07th Sep 2019 at Forthill, will decide who heads into Group A and Group B at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia in 2020. The semi-finals and Final will be live streamed on ICC’s digital platforms (Facebook and YouTube).
