Japan Cricket Association (JCA) have announced the 15-member U19 squad for the upcoming ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in South Africa from 17th Jan – 09th Feb, 2020. Nigeria qualified for the World Cup after winning the ICC U19 World Cup EAP Division 1 qualifiers in Sano, Japan in Jun 2019, remaining unbeaten in the tournament after claiming wins over U19 team’s from Vanuatu and Samoa, while Papua New Guinea forfeited their final match against them on disciplinary action incident involving their players.
It will be Nigeria’s maiden appearance in a Cricket World Cup (senior or junior) event, and for preparations, the squad traveled to Brisbane, where they played practice matches during the preparatory tour along with access to training facilities.
Japan will be playing their group stage matches in U19 World Cup against India U19, New Zealand U19 and Sri Lanka U19 in Group A at North West University Oval, Potchefstroom and Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein. They will also play official warm-up games on 13th & 15th Jan 2019 against Scotland and UAE respectively.
