Japan U19 to tour Australia to prepare for U19 World Cup in South Africa

Japan Cricket Association (JCA) have announced an 18-member U19 squad, which will travel to Australia to prepare for their maiden apperance at the U19 Cricket World Cup Tournament in South Africa in Jan/Feb 2020.

Japan qualified for the U19 Cricket World Cup in Jun 2019, after a last minute forfeit from PNG U19 in their final game enabled them to top the group and claim the lone qualification spot from the East Asia-Pacific regional qualifiers. The squad will be based in Brisbane, where they will play five practice matches during the preparatory tour along access to training facilities.

Japan will be playing their group stage matches in U19 World Cup against India U19, New Zealand U19 and Sri Lanka U19 at North West University Oval, Potchefstroom and Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein. The final squad of 15 for the World Cup will be chosen after the Australia tour, while the remaining 3 players will be the reserves for the tournament. The squad will be coached by Dhugal Bedingfield, with Kendel Fleming serving as Assistant Coach and Alan Curr as Team Manager during the tour.
