Jersey Cricket have announced their 15-member Men’s national squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Europe regional finals from October 15th – 21st, 2021 at Desert Springs Resort Cricket ground in Spain. Italy along with Denmark and Germany were given the qualification spots from the three (3) cancelled sub-regional qualifiers this year due to COVID-19 pandemic safety concerns for travelling countries. The three countries join Jersey in the qualifiers, from which there are two (2) qualification spots available into the Global qualifiers.
Jersey Men’s team will play two (2) matches each against all the three opponents to decide the top 2 teams from the qualifiers. This will be the first International tournament for Jersey after the Cricket World Cup Challenge League Group B tournament held in Oman in December 2019, following their appearance in the 2019 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup qualifiers in UAE in October/November. The players have been playing domestic tournaments in both 40-overs and T20 formats in 2021 at home, with the national squad also playing few T20 matches with clubs based in the United Kingdom in the past month.
The senior national squad includes two (2) members from the Jersey U19 squad, Asa Tribe and Charlie Brennan, who played at the same venue in September 2021 during the ICC U19 World Cup Europe qualifiers. The schedule for the T20 World Cup Europe qualifiers at Desert Springs facility has been announced, with Jersey playing their first game against Germany on 15th October, with what transpired during the final match played between the two countries in the previous European qualifiers held in 2019 in Guernsey still very fresh, with Jersey edging past the Germans in NRR.
The squad played two (2) practice T20 games at the Desert Springs ground with Austria on 12th October 2021, who were also camped at the facility for their tour.
