Kenya announce squad and new captain for Zimbabwe Tri-series

There are not many surprises in the 15-member Kenya Men’s national squad for their tour of Zimbabwe for T20 Tri-series involving Zimbabwe Select and Board XI teams from the host country.

K’Ochieng, Eugene Ochieng and Peter Lagat have replaced Irfan Karim, Hiren Varaiya and Karan Kaul from the squad, which took part in ICC WCL Division 2 in Feb 2018 in Namibia.

Head coach Maurice Odumbe had mentioned earlier about bringing back batsman Tanmay Mishra, bowler Elijah Otieno and include a number of players from the U-19 squad into the National squad fold but due to lack of new players coming through the domestic competitions and few other capped players having personal commitments, hasn’t been able to execute the plans to his liking.

“It’s alarming that we still don’t have players who can fight for places in this team. With little pool of players, I find it hard to make changes hence, I have no option but to do with what I have,” Odumbe said to The Star.

Shem Ngoche has been appointed as the new captain ahead of ICC WorldT20 Africa “B” quakifiers in Jul 2018 in Rwanda. Rakep Patel is part of the squad as a player after he resigned from the captaincy duties, following Kenya’s disappointing performance in WCL Division 2.

All matches will be played at Harare Sports Club ground in Zimbabwe.
