Kenya produced a stunning and thrilling victory over Netherlands by 2 wickets in the final over of the 2nd WCL match to share the points and move to 4th place in the WCL Championship points table.

Netherlands made a brilliant start to their innings with Wesley Baressi (69 off 74) & Stephan Myburgh (50 off 58) combining to make a 120 runs partnership for the 1st wicket and then the dramatic collapse started and they got reduced to 157/6 in the 33rd over.

Michael Rippon (51 off 75) held the innings together at one end but wickets kept tumbling at the other end to restrict the Dutch from scoring more runs as they ended up with only 224/9 in their 50 overs.

Shem Ngoche (4/33 off 10), Rakep Patel (2/37 off 10) & Collins Obuya (2/25 off 8) triggered the Dutch collapse with some accurate and penetrating spin bowling.

Needing nothing less than a victory to keep their chances alive for a top 4 finish, Kenya didn’t start well as they lost both their openers by the 9th over. Dhiren Gondoria counter-attacked with a strong 63 runs off 61 deliveries and in the company of Collins Obuya (56 off 80), brought back Kenya into the game.

However, Netherlands bowlers kept picking up wickets to pile up the pressure as Kenya reached 200 in the 44th over with 4 wickets in hand.

Pressure told on the lower order batsmen as they lost 2 more wickets to be at 222/8 in the 49th over. However, the target was almost in reach and Obuya stayed till the end to guide giantess through to a stunning victory and keep Kenyan hopes alive in the Championship.

Roelof van der Merwe (2/35 off 10), Peter Borren (2/13 off 5) & Peter Seelaar (2/38 off 10) contained Kenya for a long period of time with some good spin display but the target was not too big to restrict Kenya and beat them for the 2nd time in a row.
