Kuwait & Oman win respective matches on day 3 of U-19 Asia Cup Western Qualifiers

Kuwait U-19 and Oman U-19 registered victories in their group matches on Day 3 of action from the ACC U-19 Asia Cup Western region Qualifiers being held at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

While Kuwait U-19 beat Qatar U-19 comprehensively by 8 wickets to collect their 2nd victory in a row; Oman U-19 won their first group match against Bahrain U-19 by 5 wickets.

Qatar U-19 were no match for Kuwait bowlers as they were bowled out for only 46 runs in 24 overs. Khalid Siddiqi (16 off 28) was the only player to cross double-figures. Kuwait opening bowlers, Abdul Haseeb (4/18) and Akhil Sajeev Nair (3/13) bowled a hostile opening spell to take out their batting line-up.

The chase was never going to be problem for Kuwait U-19 and although they lost 2 wickets in-route to reaching 47/2 in 10.2 overs, the match was virtually over in the 1st innings itself. Kuwait U-19 now go on top of points table from their group.

Bahrain U-19 batted first against Oman U-19 and got bowled out for 154 in their 50 overs. Bahrain opener Muhammad Zain Tariq (43 off 62) and Jagan Vijayakumar (25 off 54) provided a good start of 67 runs for the opening wicket but after Tariq got out, Bahrain couldn’t get another similar partnership as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Ubaid U picked up 3/20, while Vikram N collected 2/21 as all other 4 bowlers used also chipped in with a wicket apiece.

Oman U-19 stuttered at the start of their chase as they were reduced to 53/3 in the 11th over. Prathamesh Santosh (21 off 41) and Vivek Shreeraman (31 off 47) steadied the innings and following their departure, Wasim Ali played a whirlwind knock of to guide their team home with their 1st win of the tournament.

Oman U-19 have their tough outing coming up next against UAE U-19.
